Tom Wesselmann's paper maquettes are an intriguing aspect of his creative process. These maquettes are small, preliminary models or studies that Wesselmann crafted out of paper to plan and visualize his larger, more complex works. They allowed him to experiment with composition, color, and form before committing to the final piece. Wesselmann's maquettes are notable for their simplicity and directness, often capturing the essence of his larger works in a more intimate and accessible format. They provide insight into his artistic process, showcasing how he developed his distinctive style and conceptual approach. The maquettes often include cut-out shapes and painted elements that mirror the bold, graphic qualities of his finished works, offering a glimpse into how he translated his ideas into the final pieces. These paper maquettes are valuable not only for understanding Wesselmann's method but also for appreciating the evolution of his artistic vision. They highlight his meticulous planning and the way he refined his concepts before executing them on a larger scale.
