A packet of information will be provided with the theremin, including the electrical tests, coil data measurements, a reproduction of the original RCA Theremin Instruction Manual, and more.

Condition: Scratches on the theremin's wooden stand. The speaker has wear and toning to the fabric. Marks and scratches throughout the wood. See images for details.

The theremin serial number is 200022 and the Jamestown Mantle Co. cabinet number is 346.

The theremin was fully serviced by Mike Buffington. All electrical contacts (screw terminals, spade terminals, nuts, washers, and screws) were cleaned and treated with DeoxIT D5. All screws and machine screws have been securely tightened. Some missing hardware and a missing door knob have been replaced with correct replacements.

The theremin was tuned and has a working 4 octave pitch range and the volume controls were adjusted according to the RCA Theremin Service Notes.

The full complement of vacuum tubes in the theremin and addition spare vacuum tubes have been checked on a Hickok 534 Mutual Conductance tube tester, have been tested for and passed the shorts test, and have been marked with the tested value, date of testing, and the tester number on the back of the tube glass.

Preexisting work that was observed on this theremin includes a shelf added to the legs (attached with L brackets), a rewired power cable (works), a replaced 100K ohm resistor in the chassis (designated R12 on RCATheremin.com’s modern schematic). An additional mica capacitor was added to the fixed pitch oscillator section of the circuit. The legs have been shorted by a few inches and evidence that the theremin was previously on rollers remain.

The RCA Loudspeaker 106 has modifications: The original rectifier and filter banks have been bypassed and a modern solid state rectifier and capacitor have been added. The power switch is non-original.The power and speaker cables have been replaced with modern cloth covered wire and preexisting damage to the cone and the speaker cable terminal have been repaired by Mike Buffington. The loudspeaker works.

The RCA Loudspeaker 100-A has a replacement speaker cable. The loudspeaker works.

Available payment options

All out-of-state buyers: we will assume your items require shipping and will coordinate it for you unless a lot is specifically marked for local pickup only or other arrangements are made with us in advance. For smaller eligible items, including jewelry, coins, sterling silver, and select small objects, we handle shipping in-house. These shipments are fully insured, require a signature, and include a $10 handling fee added to the final shipping cost. For all other items, we coordinate shipping through a local UPS Store or another appropriate third-party shipper. Once your auction invoice has been paid, the next invoice you receive will be a separate shipping invoice directly from the shipping provider. That invoice must be paid before your items are shipped. If you prefer to use your own shipper or arrange a third-party pickup, you must let us know within 2 days of the auction closing. We will coordinate release of the items once arrangements are confirmed. To help prevent fraud, shipments will only be sent to the billing address tied to the payment method unless payment is made by wire transfer and approved in advance. All items are shipped with full declared value and full insurance. Buyers are responsible for all packing, shipping, insurance, duties, taxes, and any import or export fees.
