Bio: Paul Jenkins (1923–2012) was an American abstract painter associated with Abstract Expressionism and Lyrical Abstraction. He developed a distinctive technique of controlled paint pouring, often using an ivory knife to guide fluid washes of color across the surface. Jenkins studied at the Art Students League in New York under Yasuo Kuniyoshi and was influenced by Eastern philosophy, Jungian psychology, and Goethe’s color theory. His long-running “Phenomena” series reflects his interest in the spiritual and emotional dimensions of color and form. He maintained studios in both New York and Paris throughout his career.
