Maxine Kim Stussy (American, 1923–2020) was a Los Angeles–based modernist sculptor and painter known for her expressive abstract and figurative works. She studied at the University of California, Los Angeles, earning her B.A. in 1947, and later married painter Jan Stussy in 1949. Working in ceramic, wood, and bronze, she created an extensive body of sculpture featuring horses, abstract figures, and monumental human forms over six feet tall. Stussy exhibited widely across the United States and Europe, including at Esther Robles Gallery and Ceeje Gallery, and also wrote poetry throughout her career.
