Self-taught painter Gabriel Godard’s work has spanned abstraction and figuration. Born in 1933 in Delouze-Rosières, France, he is considered a second-generation School of Paris artist. Godard began painting around 1950, turning decisively to abstraction in 1986. Country landscapes, the seaside, washerwomen, and studio scenes are frequent motifs in his work. Godard’s works have been exhibited and collected internationally. His work is held in the collection of the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris. Signed l.r. "G. Godard" and entitled on verso.
