Condition: A 3/4" tear is present at the center of the image. The sheet exhibits some undulation and light creasing from the way it was mounted to the board. The upper right corner shows a tear that has been reattached, and there are a few minor edge tears. These characteristics appear consistent with the artist’s chosen materials and the overall construction of the piece.
Bio:
Jim Dine (American, b. 1935) is known for his multidisciplinary practice spanning painting, drawing, sculpture, and printmaking. Emerging in the late 1950s and 1960s, he developed a personal iconography centered on motifs such as hearts, tools, bathrobes, and botanical forms. His work blends gestural mark-making with repeated symbolic imagery, positioning him between Pop Art and expressionist abstraction. Dine’s career aligns with other postwar American artists exploring personal symbolism and experimental printmaking, including figures such as Robert Rauschenberg, Claes Oldenburg, and Jasper Johns. His ongoing studio-based practice emphasizes material exploration, craftsmanship, and the evolution of recurring forms.
