Jean-Pierre Lafrance (b. 1943) is a Canadian artist based in Montreal whose work spans abstraction, surrealism, and gestural expression. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts de Montréal, Lafrance emerged in the 1960s amid a shifting Canadian art landscape. While much of his career centers on lyrical abstraction, select bodies of work reveal a surrealist influence—marked by dreamlike imagery, symbolic figures, and psychological tension. His paintings often explore the boundary between the unconscious and the formal, incorporating unexpected forms and layered textures.
