Artist Bio:
James Bearden is an American artist and designer known for his distinctive sculptures and furniture pieces, which blend fine art with functional design. Based in Des Moines, Iowa, Bearden's work is celebrated for its raw, industrial aesthetic and meticulous craftsmanship. He often works with metals like steel and bronze, which he transforms into striking, textured forms through processes like welding, grinding, and patination. Bearden's sculptures range from abstract, totemic figures to intricate, architectural constructions. His furniture pieces, such as tables, lamps, and chairs, carry the same artistic sensibility, making them both functional objects and works of art. The rugged surfaces, combined with bold, geometric shapes, give his creations a sense of strength and timelessness, often drawing comparisons to Brutalism and other mid-century modernist movements.
