Artist Bio:
Francisco Z��iga was a Costa Rican-Mexican sculptor and painter, renowned for his powerful depictions of the human figure, especially women. Born in Costa Rica in 1912, Zuniga moved to Mexico in the late 1930s, where he became a prominent figure in Latin American art. His work often celebrates indigenous and rural women, portraying them with a sense of strength, dignity, and timelessness Zuniga's sculptures are characterized by their robust, voluminous forms, and a tactile quality that brings out the physicality and presence of his subjects. His use of stone, bronze, and other materials emphasizes the weight and solidity of the human body, making his figures appear both grounded and monumental. In his paintings and drawings, Zuniga continued to explore similar themes, using fluid lines and earthy tones to convey the grace and resilience of his subjects.
