Édouard Drouot was a French sculptor known for his dynamic bronze figures and expressive compositions, often depicting allegorical, mythological, and exotic subjects. "Indien à Cheval" reflects Drouot’s interest in romanticized portrayals of non-European cultures, a popular theme in late 19th- and early 20th-century French art. His bronzes are typically cast with rich patinas and display a strong sense of movement and detail. Drouot frequently exhibited at the Paris Salon and was a member of the Société des Artistes Français.
