Alfred Jansson (1863–1931) was a Swedish-American landscape painter known for his luminous depictions of rural and natural scenes. Born in Kil, Sweden, Jansson immigrated to Chicago in the late 1880s, where he became part of the city’s growing community of Scandinavian artists. His work often features serene countryside settings, snow-covered farms, and expansive skies rendered in soft, atmospheric light—a hallmark of Nordic Romanticism adapted to the American Midwest. Jansson’s paintings reflect a blend of Swedish tonalism and American Impressionist influences, emphasizing mood and natural harmony over strict realism.
